Track points recorded per Km

The points per Km that GPS records are a decisive factor in the collected data reliability.

The total recorded points do not affect to the total covered Km, but they do in the accumulated rised/descended meters.

If there are recorded a few points per Km, we will have poor information, so that the total meters accumulated will be less than the real ones. If we have a lot of points, then we will have too much information and too much accumulated mistakes, so that the accumulated meters will be more that the real ones.

After analyzing more than 150.000 tracks, the point per Km average is 2 for mountain tracks and 15 for raod tracks.

The reliability of the analysis and so of the IBP value, will be bigger when it is near the points per km before mentioned.

In the second analysis that IBPindex makes (optimized analysis), it is corrected the excess of points.

Normally, the newest GPS configurations adapt to the average values mentioned. If your GPS records very different values, try to change the points capture configuration.
