In the next example, we compare the usual data that we have of two routes with different difficulty.
The data that we normally have is:

This comparison encourage us to believe that track 1 is harder than track 2, as the distance is the double and there are some more accumulated meters.
But when we analyze them, we can see that in track 1 we rise the 35% of the total km and there is an average rising of the 3.5%. On the other hand, in track 2 we rise the 42,7% of the total km and there is an average rising of the 6.3%.
The IBP index show us a greater hardness in track 2.
